Best Stay 2016

For the very best in tourism

The second edition of the Best Stay conference was held in Opatija, 17 & 18 November. The event was visited by more than 250 attendees (during both days) including leading representatives of the following companies: Valamar Riviera, Maistra, Union Hotels, AccorHotels, TripAdvisor, Grand Hotel Lav, Liburnia Riviera Hotels, Comping, Villa Storia, Hostel Celica, ZIGZAG Integral hotel, Croatian Telecom, Njivice Hotels, Swanky Mint Hostel, CISCO, Istraturist Umag, Rusan Arhitektura, 88 Rooms Hotel, Park Plaza Belgrade, Croatian Chamber of Architects and many others.

The main topics of the event included seasonality issues of Croatian tourism, changes and new expectations of today’s guests, design and architecture in the tourism industry as a complement to guest experience, the importance of destination communication strategies and branding, as well as accommodation and staff branding.

At Best Stay 2016, special emphasis was put on the experience of the destination as well as local experience, during which Airbnb was highlighted as the most successful channel directed towards the Millennials.

It is important to highlight the presentation by Gianluca Laterza (TripAdvisor), who pointed out that 87% of guests use Facebook for travel inspiration, and more than 50% use Twitter and Pinterest. Vice president for business development and corporate affairs at Valamar Riviera, Ivana Budin Arhanić also stressed this: “Today’s traveller is at all times connected, more than 50% of bookings are done through online channels, of which, as much as half are on mobile phones”.
Panellists of the past panel “Looking into the future of tourism – What’s trending around the globe” pointed out, once again, the need for further guest activities throughout the pre and post season and the target group identification.

Networking programme at Best Stay 2016 conference gave partners and sponsors the opportunity to hold:

50+ 1-2-1 meetings
& 40+ speed networking meetings.

Speed networking programme enabled attendees and sponsors to maximise their participation at Best Stay 2016 conference. These short meetings were held during morning coffee breaks both days of the conference, and lasted only 3 minutes per meeting, which impressed all the participants.

“Excellent networking and sophisticated ambience which gave us a great opportunity to get to know most attendees.”
– partner, Marijana Brdovnik,, Croatia

Big thank you to all the sponsors, exhibitors, media and event partners and conference attendees of Best Stay 2016. See you next year!
